In "Romantic Poetry" you'll find a varying degrees of love from its smallest of crushes, to its deepest hopes and desires. "Life Poetry" stems from all the people, the places, or the problems that have been of inspiration. "Death Poetry" comes from the loss of someone close, or the fear of death itself.

Poetry written from the heart and to that someone special, the one. That person may not even know how you feel, you may just be embarking on the first steps of a relationship, you maybe years down the road and still happy, or they may have broken your heart. Romantic poetry is all about expressing all the sides ot love, the good, the bad and the damn right ugly

Life is life. We go about our daily routines and rarely pay attention to the bigger picture. It is only when we learn one of lives valuable lessons do we see outside the box. Life Poetry is about life, and how we learn from those lessons we are forced to take. In this section there are also poems for family members and friends. These are the people who touch our lives in a non romantic way, and they can provide us with and support us through a lot of life's lessons.

There are some people in this world who do not believe that you are in control of your destiny. Where there is an element of fate, or divine intervention... or whatever it is you may believe in, there is something to be gained from "regret what you have done and not what you haven't" - For I now believe that shoulda, coulda and woulda are only excuses.

There is something incredibly powerful from the self confidence gained by believing "You can achieve anything you put your mind to" - Life is hard. Life is a constant battle to get where you want to be. No matter who is there for you, what they can do for you, at the end of the day there will almost always be someone or something standing in your way. Your army can not do this for you and it may come down to you against the rest of the world.

 

When the unwelcomed, heart shattering loss of a love one strikes within our lives, we fail to see the bigger picture; Death is simply a part of the circle of life. We feel the pain from the loss of our loved one. Left with some many unanswered questions we sometimes have to force ourselves to attend to this grief and although this is an incredibly difficult process, but without grief there can be no comfort.

It's not easy to swim inside the subconcious mind, to find the words as they formulate into thoughts about death, but only when we allow those subconscious thoughts flow freely can we begin to face the loss of that loved one. Death Poetry has been established in many cultures, religious practices and is present throughout history. To put pen to paper and create death poetry is an ancient practice to better understand the loss of a loved one.

We Live, We Love, We Lose, is the 2010 entry to the Brit Writers Award. Out ove 22,000 entries to the competition, this collection made it through to the final 1,500 and the last judging phase before the finalist were announced.
